After purchasing a 1940s post-and-beam stucco house, the owner sought to better connect with the garden, which was previously obstructed by the kitchen and laundry room. To improve flow, these rooms were relocated to the center of the house. The living room was moved to the front, while the family and dining rooms were positioned at the back, opening up to the garden with new French doors to a full-width deep deck with room for an outdoor living and dining room.

Character was added throughout with molding, wall paneling and a hidden door linking the primary bedroom to the living areas. Inside. The client’s reuphostered sofa sits atop a bold black-and-white striped rug. Vintage finds, like a 70s cube table and 80s repurposed chair, complement traditional pieces like an inherited dining hutch. The owner's grandmother’s chair was reupholstered in vibrant toile fabric, matching the home’s fresh color palette of greens, melon, and grays. A vintage dining table and custom chairs complete the inviting space, accented by mid-century collages by the painter Peter Tangen.
